Your Story Laine is a graduate of the University of Manitoba’s Bachelor of Recreation Management and Community Development undergraduate degree program. Having worked in the field for almost 10 years, in various community recreation roles, she is currently the Recreation Facilitator for the Rural Municipality of Rockwood and Town of Stonewall, in which she proudly calls home. Laine is a past board member and the current President of Recreation Connections Manitoba. She is passionate and pleased to be part of a great organization. As the proud mom of three active young kids and wife to a fantastic hubby, she sees the fundamental proactive role recreation and community development play in increasing the quality of life for everyone. Recreation, community and leisure have been an integral part of her life and Laine is thrilled to have the opportunity to share her passion for the value of recreation, parks, leisure and community, alongside the other board members of CPRA. Laine enjoys spending quality time with family and friends, fishing, majority of mainstream sports, volunteering and relaxing at the lake.

How did you end up working where you do now? Dedication to the recreation community

Where do you volunteer? For local events and sports groups as well as the provincial recreation community

How did you find yourself as a volunteering there? passion and pride

What does your volunteering provide? a greater quality of life

What does a community mean to you? the good, people, passion and pride

What community are you apart of ? the communities within the rm of rockwood and town of stonewall directly for personal and work purposes. I still find identity in the town of carberry as i spent time there working.

Who else is involved in your community? lots :)

How does everyone work together within your community? very well.

What are the challenges your community faces? reduction of funding and resources mainly. also the threat of COVID

What do you think is the impact of your community? What do they offer to others or those involved? there is an abundance of opportunity to contribute to a better quality of life for all the community

What is something you would like to create in your community or group? community cohesion- work smarter not harder and with each other

What is your biggest reason for being apart of your community? i find passion in my work and identity in what i get to do

What has been the best outcome of your community? do you have a success story you'd like to share? pride.

How has your involvement or work in the community changed you? How are your a different person now because of it? i see such value in the rural communities. we are the passion and pride of manitoba. the roots and the abilities. the genuine grassroots movements

What are some of the lessons you have learned? too many to even begin. the very best lessons come from working with and for communities
