Name Parker Pelletier (Jim Pelletier, father) Who are you ? I am 7 yrs old, I live in Selkirk MB. I have lived here with my family for the past 5 yrs and before this, I lived in Northern Manitoba. I love Hockey, Soccer, Playing Fortnight and watching YouTube. Where are you from ? I was born in Thompson Manitoba and for the past 5 years I have been living in Selkirk Manitoba Where do you live now? Selkirk Where do you work? What do they provide and what is your role? I don’t work. Instead of working I do a lot of volunteering and community involvement Where do you volunteer? I volunteer a lot through my dad’s employment as well with the Selkirk Biz. This is the local Chamber of Commerce How did you find yourself as a volunteering there? My dad is the Vice Present of the Selkirk Biz and the Committee Chair of the Biz Bucks Program among other committees What does your volunteering provide? Community involvement and to help with my self confidence. It also helps me with getting to meet new people and gets me outside which my dad prefers other then spending my free time on my electronics. What does a community mean to you? Community means people. It’s very important to do what I can and help where I can as there are so many people that is struggling with their daily lives. It can be financially or because of health reasons and if I can help to contribute something positive to them, it means a lot. What community are you apart of ? Selkirk, St.Andrews, St.Clements and West St. Paul. I also help when I can in other communities like Beausejour and Stonewall. Who else is involved in your community? There is a lot of organizations and groups within these communities How does everyone work together within your community? Every organization brings a specialty and as there is a lot of them this means that a lot of people’s lives are being positively impacted What are the challenges your community faces? Right now is the coronavirus and how it’s negatively effecting peoples lives and business owners What do you think is the impact of your community? What do they offer to others or those involved? They offer - personal fulfillment, confidence, the chance to make a positive difference and togetherness. We are a community so when one is effected and hurting, we all are What is something you would like to create in your community or group? More kids getting involved within organizations in the community. I have been helping when I can since I was very little and if everyone helps out, the world would be a better place. What is your biggest reason for being apart of your community? I love getting outside and meeting new people. My dad also make sure that I do what I can to help people. What has been the best outcome of your community? do you have a success story you'd like to share? For the past two years I have been doing Biz Bucks Videos and I love when my dad reads me the comments that people are writing about them. It’s nice when people thank you and tell me that I am doing a great job How has your involvement or work in the community changed you? How are your a different person now because of it? My confidence and even my reading level. Reading some of those scripts are very difficult and in doing so, I am leaning new words What are some of the lessons you have learned? There is so many people that needs help. I may not be able to financially help them but I can spend my time doing so. Why do you want to share your community? What do you feel its is important to let others know? I live here and as someone that lives in the community, my dad says that it’s all of our responsibility to help make the community a great place to live for all. What is one thing you really want others to know about your community or group? The Selkirk Biz works very hard every year for the businesses and the communities that is part of their area. A strong economy is good for everyone.
